Reading settings
Switching between Full, SE and Off, adjusting speech volume, reading speed and effect volume, and using the conversation wait. Also what to check when the settings button does not appear.

How much you hear, and how loud, can be changed while the Space is running — from the settings panel, or by sending a command.
Opening the settings
Open the Space's web chat and sign in with an X account that has control of that Space. The settings button at the top covers reading mode, volume and speed.
It appears only when you have permission and the Space has not ended. If you cannot see it, check which account you are signed in with and that you have the right Space's chat open.

"SE" is not silence. You will know a comment arrived, but not what it said. For actual quiet, choose "Off".
Switching to "Off" also stops audio that is already playing.
Comments that arrive while off are not replayed when you switch back. If you go quiet for a while, it is worth inviting questions again rather than expecting a backlog.
Speech volume and speed
The same panel has volume and reading speed, each from 1 to 10.
From the chat, send !vol 5 or !speed 7. Sending !vol alone reports the current value.
Both apply to the whole Space, so only the host can change them. Anyone can check.
This volume is the speech only. If nothing is audible, check that the mode is not "Off" before raising it — while off, the sliders cannot be moved at all.
Start with a short message to hear how it lands, then adjust in small steps.
Effect volume
The loudness of the sounds that reactions and emoji play is a separate setting from the speech, adjustable from 0% to 200%, defaulting to 70%.
As a Space fills up, reactions arrive more often and the sounds start to pile on top of each other. Lowering this keeps the reading while taking the edge off the noise. Turning the speech volume down does not make the effects quieter.
The "default" button returns it to 70%. It cannot be adjusted while the reading mode is "Off".
Conversation wait
While somebody is speaking, the bot can hold the reading and begin once the room falls quiet, so the synthesised voice does not land on top of yours.

From the chat, send !vad 入れる. Sending !vad alone reports the current setting. Only the host can change it.
Comments still queue while it waits. When things get busy, older queued comments may be dropped rather than read late — so do not build a format that assumes every comment is read.
Using them together
Switching by segment tends to work best, and it tells listeners what to expect.
Take questions in "Full", let the speakers talk in "SE", present in "Off". Say when you switch: if you silently turn the reading off, nobody can tell whether their comment failed to send or simply is not being read.
When a setting does not take
If an account without permission sends a changing command, the bot replies to say so and the setting stays as it was. It is not an error, so it is easy to miss that nothing changed — check which account you are signed in with.
Sending !speed or !vol with a value outside 1–10 also leaves it unchanged, with a reply stating the current value.
