Why it exists
Hosting an X Space means choosing where to put your attention. Look at the screen and the conversation stops. Keep talking and the comments go by unread. You end up giving up either your eyes or your ears.
Comeyomi moves one of those to your ears. If the replies are spoken, a host can take in reactions while still talking. And when the point is to concentrate and present, the reading can be switched off entirely.
The aim is that the amount of information reaching you is something you choose per segment, rather than something the format forces.
How it works
The bot joins the Space as a speaker and talks once the host approves its request. The usage guide covers summoning and approval; the documentation covers the details.
The runtime is provided by us. Nobody needs to stand up a server of their own.
About the documentation
The documentation here is written against the running implementation rather than from memory.
The argument ranges and permissions in the command reference, and the mapping from emoji and reactions to sounds, are checked by tests against the definitions the bot actually uses. When the behaviour and the documentation drift apart, a test fails.
If you find something on this site that does not match what the bot does, please tell us.
History
Comeyomi was not built for X Spaces. It began as an unofficial bot for POPOPO, a voice-based social network that ran for six months in 2026, and moved here after that service closed. The account of that is in コメ読み君は POPOPO で生まれた (Japanese).
